WizKids announces Demise of Mage Miniatures

Seattle, WA -- WizKids announced at the recently concluded Origins Game Expo that Mage Knight:  Nexus, due out in August, will be the last release for Mage Knight "in its present format."

Mage Knight was the first Collectible Miniatures Game (CMG) we created, so this decision was not made lightly,” said Mike Samora, vice president of Sales and Marketing at WizKids. “The game has evolved immensely in the last five years, and it's evolving again.” WizKids recently announced teaming up with Namco for a computer game based on the property, Mage Knight: Apocalypse, and other options for future Mage Knight games are being explored.

The Mage Knight CMG will be sent off with a bang via a party at GenCon in August and special events in November.  The timing of those two events mark the five year anniversaries of the first demos of the game at GenCon 2000 and the release of the first Mage Knight product in November 2000.  Mage Knight was the first product by new company WizKids, and was also the first CMG, which defined a whole new category of game.

WizKids founder Jordan Weisman is no stranger to morphing and breathing new life into his intellectual property; Battletech universe products began as games at FASA, then became video/computer games while simultaneously serving as the inspiration for the WizKids MechWarrior CMG.
