WizKids Announces New Sci-Fi Based CSG
Las Vegas, NV - WizKids has announced the second product line in its popular constructible strategy game genre (CSG). Following last year's successful release of Pirates of the Spanish Main and this year's expansion, Pirates of the Crimson Coast, WizKids will release the Rocketmen: Axis of Evil CSG in the summer of 2005.
Jordan Weisman, Chief WizKid and creator of the new game told attendees at the GAMA Trade Show what Rocketmen is all about.
“It's kind of a Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, 1930s outer space serial, Weisman said. “So it has humans of different colors shapes and sizes that live on every planet in the solar system and it deals with the big war/soap opera that exists between all these different planets.” He explained that just like Pirates of the Spanish Main, Rocketmen will not take itself too seriously. “It has a lot of humor and the game play is very different,” he said.
Rocketmen: Axis of Evil will combine large-fleet battle strategy, resource management and a fun, “retro-space universe.” Weisman says WizKids game designers have actually made the game feel like it is in space and not on water. He says the game play will include a lot of customizability on a per game basis that will let players tweak the offensive and defensive abilities of their space ships. There will also be in-game purchasing of resource components that will help players win the game. As Weisman described it, “You gather the resources to purchase more ships during the game so that you win the game by beating the snot out of the other guy.”
WizKids has also announced that it will use other media to promote the game and develop the storyline. Eight animated Rocketmen episodes will be posted on the WizKids Web site in the 2 months prior to the game's release. The final 2 episodes will be available on a DVD that will be sold in a special pack of Rocketmen: Axis of Evil when it is released in August of 2005.
